Day 44 3/30/10

Ran for the first time on the new treadmill. I put in a Scarecrow and Mrs King dvd and got started. The workout (5 min warm-up, 30 min workout, and 10 min cool-down) went by amazingly fast. It did, however, feel quite different and hurt a bit more than usual. It was different partially because my old treadmill did not really stay steady on speed. If I wanted to walk at 3.0 mph, it would vary between 2.8 and 3.2. With the new treadmill, it is much more accurate, so it will take a little more getting used to. I felt more pain in my knees and legs than I have in the past. This might have been caused by the new treadmill, but it might not have been. I will see how it goes on Thursday. I can adjust the "softness" of the track, so I might just need to play around with that a bit.

Day 43 3/29/10

Worked at home, so calorie burn was a little low, but still good. Got in a great workout t Curves. I think my toe is finally healing, albeit very slowly. I discovered that one of my favorite "treats" is actually not bad for me like I thought. I love the El Monterey Shreeded Steak Taquitos. They are only 160 calories and 4 grams of fat for 2. I normally eat 4, so that is 320 calories! Add in just a little for the salsa, and that makes a great lunch!!! Woohoo!!!

I think I am finally past my "ravenous" phase. I was hungry all the time last week, which is why my average deficit was closer to 700. I easily met my deficit yesterday, and that was including a chocolate Frosty from Wendy's!!

Week 6 recap

Down another 1.4 lbs. :) I indulged a bit too much over the last week, so this is a great loss! Also, I feel like I am retaining some water, so the loss could potentially be a little more, but I am not going to worry about that. :)

I am looking forward to the coming week since I have the new treadmill set up now. I just have to make sure I don't overdo it! I don't think I have ever been quite so eager to workout!

I also had a difficulty sleeping most nights this past week. I am really not sure why. I slept really great last night though. My sleep efficiency according to the GWF was 89%!!! This was the highest I have ever seen.

Day 42 3/28/10

Woohoo! Tim and I got the treadmill put together and it is AMAZING!!!! I am so gonna love this thing. :) Today was a rest day, but I had to try it out. I put on Stargate and walked 30 min. It has a tv, fan, speakers, the works! I spent most of my bonus on it, but it was soooo worth it!

I was up and down the stairs a bunch today between laundry, getting the rest of the treadmill pieces upstairs, and cleaning out the garage. My knees are bothering me a bit, but hopefully they will feel better tomorrow.

The only bad thing today was that I ate way too many cookies! At least they are almost gone. My weakness for sweets is always my downfall.

Day 41 3/27/10

Had an awesome workout! I was able to do 5 minutes running in 1 minute segments! The last minute I split into two 30 sec segments. I was getting really tired on the last segment, but by the time I hit the 30 min mark, I got a burst of energy and extended my cool down to 10 minutes.

Jamie came over and helped bring the treadmill base up. He and Tim had a heck of a time. It is extremely heavy.

I had spent two hours getting ingredients for green chili into the crock pot earlier and we ate that along with some quesadillas, guacamole, chips, and cookies. We watched a couple of movies and had a great time!

Ponderings about the journey so far...

Wow, I cannot believe that I am about to finish out Week 7 of the Conservative C25K! It really does not feel like it has been that long. I was talking to Tim yesterday after my workout about it. I remember when I started back up (after taking a 3 month hiatus), I could barely go 10 min on the treadmill, and that was at a 2.5 mph pace. Now, I am running at 4.5 mph in 30 sec segments and walking at 3.0-3.5 mph in between. Every week, I improve on my overall pace. Last week, my best pace was 19:36 minutes/mile. Yesterday, I was at 17:51. I really felt it too. My upper arms hurt, my butt hurt, my legs hurt, but I felt awesome! Today, I only have a little soreness in my right hamstring and I am sure that will go away once I get my morning walk at work.

I am amazed at the amount of calories I am burning. This has been great since it has allowed me to "splurge" on treats while still keeping close to a 1000 calorie deficit.

I really need to get fitted for shoes. I have been waiting for my toe to heal; that is taking longer than I expected. Oh well, another week probably. We should be able to get the new treadmill set up this weekend. It is HUGE and Tim and I cannot handle it ourselves. Jamie is coming over Saturday to help. LOL, he could probably get it upstairs by himself!

I have found that there are a lot of people out there like me; overweight and making the goal to become a runner. It has been very inspiring and motivating to read their stories, successes, and challenges. I know I can do this!

Day 39 3/25/10

C25K workout was really tough today. I decided to break out my 5 min warmup from my 30 min workout, so technically I did 5 min more than I had been doing. I figured it would be easier to do this now since I will have to eventually.

Day 37 3/23/10

Today went much better. I got a walk in during the morning at work. I was worried about how my toe would feel during my C25K workout. Also, since I missed Saturday's workout, I wasn't sure how well I would do. This week, the running portion increases again by 2 min bringing it to 6 min running and 24 min walking. It went great! No toe pain at all. I ran 30 sec every 2 min. I was more tired at the end than I normally am, but I got through it!

Week 5 Recap

Woohoo! Finally down again. Weighed in at 2.4 pounds under where I was last Monday. I had a really off week between Mom being here and injuring my toe. This next week should go better. I am only going to eat what I can accurately record calories for and I am hoping to get all my workouts in. My toe is still bothering me, but I am crossing my fingers that it will fell well enough by Tuesday for my C25K workout.

Toe is better., but still hurts if i put much weight on it. Did laundry without too much pain going up and down the steps. I had been hoping to get in a slow walk on the treadmill, but Tim and I went out instead. Had dinner and went shopping.

Well, since I injured my toe in spectacular fashion, I worked at home and stayed off my feet as much as possible. I absolutely hated doing that. I got so stiff and achey just sitting all day. Lowest calorie burn so far.

First Setback?

It looks like I might have my first real setback. When I got up Friday morning, 3/19, I jammed my foot into the baby gate we use to block off the litter box (Artoo prevention). My little toe is now a beautiful purple color and hurts like heck when I put weight on it. I can move it fine without pain, so I am pretty sure it isn't broken. It looks like I may have to cancel any real workouts over the weekend...hopefully it won't be for too long.

I am still pretty sore. I walked at work in the morning and that helped a little; at least I did not feel so stiff. I am also really tired. I only felt a little ache in my knees at the end, but that went away fairly quickly.

Day 29 3/15/10

Worked at home today, so calories burned and steps were a little below what I have been averaging. Still good though. Calories consumed was also a little higher because Tim made chocolate chip cookies. YUM! I ate 6!!! Definitely worth it though.

My thighs are so sore from Saturday! Because of this, Curves was much harder than normal. I normally jog in place on the recovery boards and I try to push myself on these segments, but I had to really tone down the effort today. My right thigh just above my knee is the worst. I cannot even fully stretch it; it is too painful. I am NOT looking forward to my treadmill workout on Tuesday. I am supposed to increase from 2 min to 4 min running...ugh.

Week 4 recap

Well, I am up another .4 lb. I wish I knew if it was due to water retention from this weekend's unique dining, from water retention due to muscle repair, from gaining muscle, or from fat gain. I keep reminding myself that I guessed I would not see any good results on weigh-in for two weeks after starting Curves. I also started running during this time. Even so, I was hoping to see just a little loss. This is the end of the 2nd week, so I will wait and see what happens next week.

Day 28 3/14/10

Sunday was another really busy day. Mom and I went to a movie in the morning, we picked up Tim and went to lunch, did a little shopping at Costco, did my treadmill workout and then I did laundry all afternoon. I am being lazy and just estimated calories for the day in my tracker, so I will not be posting numbers again. I will be back on track for Monday, though.

Day 27 3/13/10

Saturday was a complete whirlwind of activity. I volunteered at a the Domestic Abuse and Intervention Services shelter. We painted for 4 full hours. I was feeling quite sore when I got home, so I rescheduled my treadmill workout to Sunday. Then, Mom and I went to State Street. Had dinner at a Nepali/Indian/Tibetan restaurant. It was quite good. Afterwards, we went to a show at the Capital Theater. Unfortunately, I forgot to put my GWF back on after my shower earlier that afternoon, and so all that walking was not recorded. Also, I have no clue how to determine calories for dinner, so I will not be posting numbers for this day.

Did not have time to walk at work but got a great workout at home. I beat my 1 mile time by 1 minute and my 1.5 mile time by 1.5 minutes. The running segments were definitely easier. I completed all four 30 sec segments within the first 15 minutes. I think this helped.

Day 24 3/10/10

Wow, another record calorie burn...and I wasn't even trying for it. I did walk in the morning at work and went to Curves. I was planning on taking it easy at Curves, but I got to chatting with a few people and kinda "got in the groove" so to speak. I did not push myself, but didn't go easy either. I had more walking through the day than I usually do, so that is probably why.

I am having a problem right now of just not being hungry. I need to get in more calories though because my deficit recently has been way too high...of course, that is partly due to the fact that I am burning more than anticipated.

First Run

Well, I had my first official walk/run day. The schedule indicated I was to walk 28 min and run 2 minutes. It did not indicate how or when to run those 2 min, so I split it up into 4 segments of 30 sec each, starting at the 10 min, 15 min, 20 min, and 25 min marks. The first one was great. I contemplated going for a full minute, but decided I should stick with my original plan. The second was was also good, but then came the third. It was much harder and I barely got through the 4th. It wasn't so much lack of endurance, but pain in my ankles and lower legs. I did, however, survive and felt pretty good afterward. I was definitely feeling some soreness in my legs right after and I made sure to get a good stretch. That was about 4 hours ago and I am extremely sore now...and tired. :) This is gonna be a 4 Tylenol night.

Day 22 3/8/10

Another crazy Monday. All the plans I had for the work day flew out the window as soon as I opened my email. I had to completely rework my schedule so I could get some contracts completed today. I am never going to catch up with my normal, routine tasks...

At least I was able to get a walk in at work in the morning, but the afternoon was just too hectic. Had a good workout at Curves, but I had to push myself a bit to keep up my momentum. I am not sure if it was because of the busy day at work or because I had the full rest day on Sunday. If Mondays continue to be this hard, then I might rethink the total rest Sunday idea and get in a low intensity, long walk instead.

I felt great afterwards, as I normally do, but now my shoulder is feeling pretty sore. Oh well, as they say, no pain, no gain.

Week 3 Recap

Well, I was up .4 pounds when I weighed this morning. I was actually expecting this. When starting a new weight training workout, one can expect to see weight gain for a couple of weeks. This is, in part, to the muscles retaining water while they repair themselves. Also, as muscle replaces fat, one can see a gain due to the fact that muscle is denser. Even though my brain knows this, emotionally I am still a little disappointed. Only a little though :) I went through my closet this weekend trying to get rid of some things. I tried on a lot of stuff and I am definitely seeing a difference. I am almost back down to where I was last October.

Last week was great. I really pushed myself on my treadmill workouts. I did far better at Curves than I was expecting. I think I will like the new workout schedule once I get past the soreness :)

This coming week will take a lot of willpower. Mom is flying in on Wednesday and staying a week. I need to make sure I stick with my workouts as planned. If I do, then I can eat out without too much impact.

What a long day. Most of my work day was spent in meetings. I had no opportunity to get a walk in at work. After work, I got in my 30 min treadmill workout, showered, and then rushed to my photography class. I signed up for Canon SLR Basics and Intermediate at one of the local camera shops. The Basic was just one night for 2.5 hours. It was really good. I got home, ate a quick dinner (even though I wasn't very hungry), and headed to bed. I am still really, really sore, so I might skip Curves Friday. I feel like I need the extra recovery time.

So this day was interesting. I started back to Curves and burned about 200 calories during the workout, which is about 100 less than I burn on my treadmill workouts. What was interesting was that that my calorie burn stayed higher longer after the Curves workout. I will have to keep and eye on that and see if it continues.

Week 2 Recap

Woohoo! Down another 3 pounds! A good week overall. I am also down 1/2 inch in my waist. I am looking forward to seeing the effects Curves will add. I know from past experience, I see more results in lost inches faster than pounds lost since I will be adding muscle. I am also going to try to hit my target a bit closer each day. There were a few days last week where my calorie deficit was really high. I don't want my body to start hording fat because I am not eating enough. I am not sure if I am even close to that, but I don't want to take any chances.
